Literature and fairy stories are an important study in English. It is an important instrument for learning English. Literature has significant influence on social attitudes and reflects the traditions and culture of the time when the stories were first written. There are many stories which are popular around the world. Some stories have become popular round the globe. The world of the story is a world of fantasy that people establish in the mind (Maria Tatar. 2002). All stories reflect real life and the fairly story reflects what life was like in the distant past, including aspects of tradition and culture (Norton .1991). Literary works are a mirror of human society and reflect what life was like at the time they were written (http://www.readbrightly.com/10-reasons-kids-need-read-non-disney-fairy-tales/).
Literature has other more specific appeals for us as readers. Literature shows human motives for what they are, inviting the reader to identify with or react to a fictional character (Rebecca J. Lukens.2007:5). We see into the mind of the character or into the subconscious that even the character does not know. Through the writer's careful choice of details from the past, the current environment, and an imagination world, we come to see clearly the motivation for action. (Rebecca J. Lukens.2007:5)
The character is very important in children’s books because the character is the first element of fiction, which the reader becomes aware of. The characters we remember most fondly are those with several sides good and bad, like real people. Young readers may say that they would like to have a friend like a favorite character or even want to be like them (Norton 1991:93). The personality relationship between the power of goodness and power of badness is very significant for this study provides comparatives and judgments between good characters and bad characters in the stories (Papon Arayasukawat. 2010).
The characters in the story are significant in their ability to display the truth. The main character is able to illustrate the role of acting in the story. Therefore, understanding is a role insight into character behavior; it approaches in wardress of Human life. The villain is a part of character that important for a complete story. The villains in fairy tales use their power badly and show how not to behave (Papon Arayasukawat 2010).
This study is designed to illustrate the process of seeing beyond “what happens” in a story, and will help you to understand texts and how to think and write about them. Therefore, the status and role in society are the main factions leading to power in society (Papon Arayasukawat 2010). This study understands the meaning of power that villains use in a story. The reader can learn how the villain uses oppression power in the fairy tale and we learn from this behavior in the character.
There are theses about stories and the analysis of character, but it is not the study and analysis of the oppressive power of the villains in the fairy tales: Snow White, Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel. This study presents an analysis of bad characters in these stories. The villain uses power badly in fairy tales and refers to the truth in real life, hence, its approach in analyzing the behavior of the villain. The different roles and status of people in society may be reflected in the various characters found in stories. A person may hold a level of status and use their power for better or worse. Better use of power may benefit others, while a bad use may oppress others, in the story, and, in real life, other people in society.
