Structurally, the sports sector is very decentralised. An important part of the sector is the local sporting club - bodies dedicated to the development of single sports run by and for its members.
These clubs often affiliate with regional and state associations which, in turn, unite to form
National Sporting Organisations (NSOs). Volunteers administer sport at all levels - particularly
the club level.
At state and national levels professional administrators begin to play a role,
although even here volunteers may still make a significant contribution.
