Questions were formulated to collect
respondents’ age, gender, highest academic
degree, number of years since degree was
awarded, number of years teaching in higher
education, academic rank in faculty position,
general area of teaching from the United
Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural
Organization’s (UNESCO, 1997) Web site,
level of expertise in online teaching on a scale
from 1 (novice) to 5 (very experienced), number
of years teaching online courses, and number
of online courses taught. Respondents also
indicated whether they had received formal
training in online teaching methods.
