The participants in this research study will be required for a preliminary trial and two test
trials. All trials will be conducted in the exercise physiology lab and duration of those trials will
depend on the participant's physical fitness level. During the preliminary trial V02max will be
tested on the subject to establish 60% of their max workload. This workload will be used during
two test trials which will be in environmental conditions set at 35°C and 60-65% relative
humidity. Trials will be terminated if subject's core temperature exceeds 38.7°C, heart rate
remains at or above 95% of max heart rate for one minute, nausea or dizziness occurs, or subject
requests for the test to be terminated. To help participants from experiencing these symptoms, a
PARQ evaluation will take place where the participants will answer basic questions related to
their health and fitness regimen. Also, participants will be asked to avoid alcohol for 24 hours
prior to testing, consume 500 ml of water at 9:00 p.m. at night before test trials the following day,
and to avoid caffeine from 9:00 p. m. at night before test trials the following day. Heart rate will
be monitored using a heart rate monitor. During testing trials a rectal thermometer will be used to
safely record and observe core temperature with an ISO Thermex electronic thermometer. A wet
bulb globe thermometer will be used to measure ambient heat, humidity, and radiant stress from
direct light.
