Interventions
The brief, simple yoga program was composed of Sun
Salutation and a series of operations with three poses. This
program improved low back pain in a previous study.16 The
yoga program was recorded on DVD so participants could
practice by watching the video guide every day. This DVD
includes a yogic asana for 5 minutes 45 seconds and pranayama
for 1 minute 45 seconds (Table 1).
The yoga group was given the DVD for 2 weeks. At the end
of the 2-week intervention, participants were encouraged to
continue their yoga practice with the instructional DVD until
the follow-up at 4 weeks. They were requested to report how
many days they practiced.
The participants in both groups were encouraged to
maintain their routine activities during the 4-week follow-up
period and to avoid taking part in any new exercise programs.
Adherence was maximized by an oral and written
commitment from all participants at the baseline evaluation
