Maternity benefits paid to employees or self-employed workers during antenatal and postnatal leave remain unaffected by the recent budget announcements. For a salaried worker they amount to the highest salary received during the three months prior to maternity leave and the average complementary benefits received during the 12 months preceding the month prior to starting maternity leave. It cannot be below 1,921.03 euros gross per month (the social minimum wage) or above 9,605.13 euros gross per month (five times the minimum wage). For more information, ask your employer.
Parental leave
Parental leave remains unchanged in the new budget, so that a parent of a child who is less than five years old may take a break from their professional career or reduce their working hours in order to fully devote themselves to the education of their child. This leave may be taken part-time for 1 year or full time for 6 months. More information here
