Fill-in Task
Although open-ended tasks, discussed below, can contribute to students’
vocabulary retention (Hulstijn & Laufer, 2001), they involve highly productive
processing and so may not be appropriate for students at the beginning
or intermediate levels. A more controlled vocabulary-learning task such as a
fill-in may better accommodate their linguistic competence. The following is
an example of a fill-in task based on the given text.
