UHPLC-HRMS does not really require cleaner solvents than
UHPLC-MS/MS. However, due to the full-scan data mode, contaminants
originating from the mobile or stationary phases are more
easily recognized than in SRM traces (MS/MS). This may be why
HRMS users are more concerned about solvent purity, glassware
cleanliness, and low-bleed columns. The presence of fewer contaminants
not only improves the quality of full-scan spectra, but
also reduces the likelihood and the extent of interface-related signalsuppression
issues. Taking such precautions, UHPLC and UHPLCHRMS
are well suited to routine applications.
