Sandy, Lob, Bert and Jean Pengelly, Mr. Dobsworth, Don, Tess, Tim, Granny Pearce, Aunt Rebecca, Dr. and Mrs. Travers
Sandy and Lob meet on the beach in Cornwall, England. They want to be together but Lob belongs to Mr. Dodsworth.
Lob repeatedly runs away from Mr. Dodsworth to be with the Pengellys.
Mr. Pengelly gives Lob to the Pengellys as a gift.
Sandy and Lob grow up together and remain devoted to each other over the next nine years.
Aunt Rebecca, who lives up the hill from the Pengellys, invites Sandy over for dinner to keep her company on a rainy, windy evening.
Sandy and Lob are hit by a truck on the way up the steep hill to Aunt Rebecca's.
Dr. and Mrs. Travers discover Sandy's badly injured body in a culvert by the road.
Sandy is taken to the hospital and lays in a coma with multiple broken bones.
Don goes out to search for Lob, finds him and buries him at sea.
Granny Pearce finds Lob outside the hospital and convinces the guard to allow Lob inside to be near Sandy.
Lob's whines cause Sandy to come out of her coma and she Sandy opens her eyes and speaks. Lob mysteriously disappears leaving only wet footprints behind.
Sandy lives and Lob never returns. A stone marker in the Pengelly's garden reads "Lob. Sandy's dog. Buried at sea.
