Speed is the ability to move to another place quickly (14). Speed for sprinter athlete is highest driven to fight the resistance that be done in fastest time. This speed is speed strength (1). Speed strength related maximum acceleration that is important phase of straight – line. Straight – line sprinting separated into three phases: acceleration, maximal speed, and maintain of maximal speed (14).
Initial acceleration is the highest acceleration from block start that have distanced between 0 to 10 meters (8) (12). Acceleration was occurred from power and rapidly contraction of muscle to drive the arms and legs to highest stride frequency and reduced time to contact the ground surface (13). It was been important to start of athlete. In many sprinters have been top three places in 100 meters world championship, they have been good velocity in 10 meters from block start (8).
The effective of sprint have many methods to improve acceleration ability such as plyometric training, weight training (3), flexibility training, and resisted sprint training (9), in which athletes sprint with added loads such as uphill running and weighted sled towing (4)(16). Weighted sled towing can improved acceleration (10) and strength muscle (8). In addition, weighted sled towing increased length stride (7), muscle force of lower body muscle, and developed fast – twist type of muscle (8). Pattern of training used mass of sled towing that friction with ground surface which occur resisted during sprint movement (4). Some studied found that sled towing reduced length stride and velocity (6). In strength training used weight that high intensity can improve acceleration in 10 meters (9) and velocity. Strength training also increased strength (3) in hip muscle, quadriceps muscle, and hamstring (6). However, strength training has been reported light improvement in sprint time (2). Whatever, all training have been both advantage and disadvantage but the mostly coaches belief in resisted sprint training will improve early acceleration performance because that have been specific in nature to sprinting (4) (6); the next logical step is to compare these training modalities.
Therefore, the aim of this study was to compared weight training and sled towing that effect to sprint start in male age 18 – 26 years old of runner on Mae Fah Luang University. The secondary aim is strength of quadriceps muscle of runner. We hypothesized that, weighted sled towing as well as weight training in 10 meters from block start.
Research question:
1. What type of training between weight training and sled towing can improve sprint star as well as in male age 18 – 26 years old of runner in Mae Fah Luang University?
2. What type of training between weight training and sled towing increase strength as well as in quadriceps muscle?
Objective:
