Like so many of our clients who embody the Asian success stories occurring across the region, Zaid Ibrahim & Co., the first member of the ZICOlaw network, was established in 1987 above a bicycle shop in Kuala Lumpur. From these humble beginnings, ZICOlaw has since grown into a network of independent leading law firms with a presence in 17 cities across Southeast Asia and Australia.
In the 1980’s, Malaysia was one of the first countries in the region to embark on a policy of privatisation, and Zaid Ibrahim & Co. was the first local law firm to work with the Malaysian Government in this area. Our foundations are built on a culture of innovation and determination, which have led us through numerous ground-breaking deals. This has made us a regional leader in the fields of privatisation, capital markets, Islamic Finance and cross border mergers and acquisition.
Over the years we have developed strong relationships with key organisations and leading international firms. We have also received awards and accolades from widely recognised international legal publications. One of our most significant achievements was when we won the Innovation in Corporate Strategy Award in the 2014 FT Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards.
In addition to the award won, we were also shortlisted for the other following awards:
Most Innovative ASEAN Law Firm – For the firm’s overall performance in the report
Most Innovative Law Firm – Based on the firm’s ranking in the FT Law 25 index of innovative law firms
Our focus has always remained the same: To promote regional expertise while maintaining local grounding.
