ISLAMABAD: AFP-CIVIL servants who work in Herat, a western Afghan city which is controlled by
rebel Taliban Islamic fighters have been told that they will lose their jobs unless they wear a turban and
grow a beard.
The Government of Herat, Maulvi Yar Mohammad said that Muslims must live according to the Muslim
Way of life. Anyone who does not do so will be punished.
A journalist for the Pakistani daily newspaper The News said that a professor and an administrator at a
Local university had lost their jobs because they did not dress according to the strict Muslim custom.
The Taliban is a student-based movement which want a strict Muslim way of life in Afghanistan.
