Topic : Credit Card Application
Message : I am lodging a complain about UOB operation in terms of credit card processing which I believe is being approved in Bangkok.
My name is Colin Cheok and I am from Singapore. I have lived in Thailand for the past 2 years. Presently, I am living and teaching in Thabo, Nong Khai, which is about 1 ½ hrs drive to Udon Thani. I hold various premier credit cards with DBS (treasure customer), UOB (Premier), and HSBC (Prime) issued in Singapore. Due to the unfavourable exchange rate using the Singapore credit cards for local purchases in Thailand, I decided to go to UOB Thailand to apply for one since UOB is my existing banker in Singapore for 20+ years.
Sometime in the middle of December 2015, I went to UOB Thailand branch at Central Plaza Shopping Centre, Udon Thani, intending to apply for a basic credit card. I brought along the document which was told to me when I first went to inquire about the credit card application, namely passport, work permit and latest bank statement from UOB Thailand account. At the bank I was told that they needed a letter from my school listing the salary. So I went back to Thabo and came back to Udon after a week with the letter. An application form was given to me to sign. They also make copies of my Visa Signature and Amex Black Master cards issued from UOB Singapore. A few days later, I received a call telling me that they had given me the wrong application form. I needed to return to the bank to fill up a new form. So I went back to Udon to sign the new form.
About another 2 weeks later, I received a call again from the bank asking me to provide the original copy of my school letter. They told me that the Bangkok office does not accept photo copies. Again I have to travel from Thabo back to Udon Thani just to give them the original copy. This would be my fourth trips to the bank.
After more than 1 ½ months after I first applied, I received a call this evening telling me that my application for a credit card has been rejected because I do not meet the minimum salary requirement of 50,000 Bath. This is atrocious and ridiculous as they had my school letter listing my salary from the very beginning of my application. If it is indeed the bank policy that the minimum salary is 50,000 Bath, they could have told me from the beginning. Instead, I had to make multiple trips to Udon and at the end, wasted so much time.
In addition, none of the staffs in that branch were able to speak English with the exception of one staff. Unfortunately, he left the bank at the end of 2015. Even after he left, he continues to be the liaison person between me and the bank. None of the existing bank staffs in Central Plaza have spoken to me directly.
I am disappointed with UOB Thailand in terms of customer services and the way my card application was handled. It is extremely unprofessional and amateurish.
I would appreciate a reply from UOB Thailand to my above complaint.
Best Regards
