The most important rationale for multicultural education is to teach students an accurate view of the United States and the world. In order to teach students an accurate view, it is really essential for them to see the westward movement from the points of view of women as well as slavery from the perspectives of people who were enslaved. So often we have taught these events only from the perspectives of men and of slave owners. We need to teach students the perspectives of the Lakota Sioux on the westward movement and the perspectives of Mexicans on the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
