Japan has dismissed rumours it is to scrap its visa-free policy for Thais at the end of the year. Tokyo has no intentention of ending the policy, the Japanese embassy in Bangkok said in a statement yesterday. Thai visitors would not be singled for strict inspections, the statement said. However, they might be required to produce documents about their stay, including a return ticket, proof in Japan.Immigration Bureau chiefPol Lt Gen Panu Kerdlappol said on Friday that Japanese immigration would be stricter after authorities estimated an average of 50 Thais, mostly females, overstay their visas each month to work illegally.
