Bandhani is hand Tie-dye is the technique of patterning cloth by reserving a part of the surface prior to dyeing. This is done by marking the fabric with patterns and blocking the dye by tying the reserved area tightly with thread. Usually small grains, pebbles or seeds are used in the reserved areas before tying, to make the un-dyed patterns. The tied fabric is then dipped into vats of dye, to create resist-dyed patterns, which vary in complexity of technique and design. Bandhani, is the most labor intensive example of tie-dyeing with its characteristic patterns of dots.
