Falls risk scores are often called risk
assessment tools. However, having
a total score does not in itself lead to
interventions. Falls risk scores may
include risk factors that cannot be
modified, for example, being aged
over 80, and do not always include key
risk factors that could be modified,
for example, treatment with sedative
medication. Therefore, if a risk score
is used, a further assessment that
identifies and treats those risk factors
that can be modified is still required.
