To obtain CPS, distilled water was added to carob pulp(1:2w/w) and the extraction was carried outatroom temperature, overnight. After wards, the mixture was pressed and squeezed. The supernatant centrifuged at 8900 g for 20 min at 4C using an Avanti J-25 I centrifuge (Beckman Coulter, Fullerton, USA) and filtered with a 0.22 lm membrane filter, in order to remove particles in suspension. In the same way, SCM were also centrifuged and filtered.
