as shown in Fig. 3. Cellulose hydrolysis had already started
before 36 h, since at that time, the cellulose concentration was
at one fourth of the initial amount. Cellulose concentration
reached zero at 60 h of fermentation, at the same time as the
pH reached its minimum. Despite absence of cellulose and
after the end of cell growth, CMC-ase activity was detected in
each sample supernatant after 60 h and beyond.
