Thyroid hormones are carried
throughout the body by proteins primarily thyroxine-binding globulin
produced in the liver.Production of
thyroid hormones is regulated by
thyroid-stimulating hormone (thyrotropin or TSH)
produced in the
anterior lobe of
the pituitary gland
and released as a
result of the activity
of hypothalamic
thyrotropinreleasing
hormone
(see Figure).
