Microanalysis using an energy dispersive X-ray microanalyzer by Liang and Ding (2002) showed that high chloride and sodium were in the root epi- dermal,
cortical,
and stellar cells of roots of salt treatment alone, whereas relatively low K was observed in these cells. In silicon- treated plants, higher K peaks and lower chloride and sodium peaks were detected in the epidermal, cortical and stelar cells of the roots under salt stress, with both chloride and sodium being evenly dis- tributed in these cells.
