Teen pop superstar Cody Simpson’s latest album “Surfers Paradise” was released on July 12, 2013, via his record label, Atlantic Records.
His new CD commences with “La Da Dee,” whose opening melodies are slightly reminiscent of rock band Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.”
It is followed by its lead-off single “Pretty Brown Eyes,” which was the quintessential summer anthem. “No Ceiling” is upbeat and it has a relaxing and laid-back vibe to it.
“Summertime of Our Lives” is a calming and lilting vocal performance by Simpson, as well as his second single from the record. Equally soothing is “Sinkin’ In.”
“Imma Be Cool” is a solid collaboration with rapper Asher Roth, who joins him midway through the song.
One of the standout tracks on the CD is “If You Left Him For Me,” which is worthy of the repeat button. In this song, the male narrator sings to his female crush, thus giving her the reasons as
to why she would be better off with him, as opposed to the guy that she is with.
It closes with the mellow “Love,” which has a reggae vibe to it and it is a collaboration with Ziggy Marley, the son of musical legend Bob Marley.
The Verdict
Overall, Cody Simpson’s newest album “Surfers Paradise” deserves well more than just a passing glance, since it is a neat collection of well-crafted songs. There are no filler tunes on here. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. Simpson showcases a lot of range on this project and proves that he is the most underrated artist of the pop genre of music; moreover, he has all that it takes to become the next Justin Bieber.
