A fully loaded container fell off its lorry onto a passing van, killing the driver in the Rangsit area of Pathum Thani province yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened at the Rangsit interchange about 4pm. The container, three metres wide and 15 metres long, was carrying wooden planks and crushed the van on the outbound side of Phahon Yothin Highway opposite the Future Park Rangsit shopping centre. Nobody else was in the van.
That showed the driver and operator's recklessness and they were liable to a fine of up to 50,000 baht, he said. Ittichai Supanakoon, acting director-general of the Port Authority of Thailand, said some operators believed containers would rarely fall from the lorries carrying them.
