Television has become a part of our lives. Many people watch television every day. But some people say that television blocks learning. I definitely disagree that television hinders study.
To start with, most television programs can help people to increase their knowledge. For example, news program give people the information and stories, which happened around the world. That can improve people’s knowledge.
Furthermore, many television programs give you direct knowledge such as feature programs, cooking shows etc. People can learn directly from those programs. For example, when they watch a cooking show, they can improve their skill in cooking, or if they watch a feature program about history, it means they are learning about history. Even children’s programs still provide much knowledge to the children, while some adult may think that it is nonsensical, but it is not.
Moreover, many people learn indirectly from television. Many overseas students, who study English can learn how to speak, vocabulary, and improve their listening skills from watching television in any program.
What is more, there are many things, which can interrupt learning. For example, the internet also hinders study, when people use it too much and then they become addicted and as a result they may stop learning.
On the other hand, some people argue that if we watch television too much, we are addicted to it. But they forget an addiction to television is more controllable than an addiction to the internet. This is because people watch only their interested programs. When there are no interesting programs, they often stop watching, while you can enjoy the internet twenty-four seven.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that television does not hinder learning. This is because people can learn from television and there are many other things that can block learning rather than just television.
