Out of 1047 specimens tested (396 sera and 651 CSFs), 39 sera (9.8%) and 51 CSF samples (7.8%) returned a positive result for the presence of cryptococcal antigen by both methods (Table 1). All of the specimens positive by the EIA method were also positive by the LFA assay (Table 1).
There was 97.2% concordance between the 2 methods. By comparison with the
EIA, the LFA had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 97%.
