Primarily short anaerobic fitness is biochemically dependent upon two factors: (1) the muscles storage capacity (mol) of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and creatine phosphate (CP), and (2) the muscles rate (mol/min) of resynthesizing and splitting ATP and CP. The most rapid resynthesis of ATP occurs by energy released from CP breakdown. Secondarily, short anaerobic fitness is partially dependent upon glycogen energy sourcer from the glycolytic system.
