are quite silty and micaceous, but distinct and large contrasts in grain size
between the coarsest silt particles and the finest temper grains indicate that
the temper was manually added to the clay body, rather than being natural
temper embedded in the clay when collected. The other Buru sherd (BX-46)
contains a much better sorted hybrid aggregate of beach origin as temper, in
which terrigenous grains of the same types as those in the other tempers are
mixed with a subequal proportion of calcareous grains of reef detritus, and
embedded in a somewhat finer grained clay paste lacking the micaceous
character of the others.
