To judge by the results obtained in this work O. africana has a
high capacity to adapt its metabolism to cope with ROS overproduction
and regulate redox balance which allows it survive
under severe stress conditions. Oudneya has the ability to change
differently the antioxidants machinery depending of the severity
and exposure to water deficiency. The ROS and NO produced under
these conditions could activate enzymatic and non-enzymatic
antioxidants to protect the plants against oxidative damages,
especially under severe drought stress conditions. These fact could
be one of the strategies used by these plants to tolerate the sever
conditions imposed in the desert, although some other
metabolic adjustment, non-identified so far, could be also
involved in the survival of this plants under continuous water
deficiency
