From the total number of injuries reported, 25.4% (n =
3874) were caused by contact with another soccer player,
and this variable was independent of the player’s age
(Table 2). From the total number of injuries, 7.7% (n =
1172) corresponded to goalkeepers, 24.2% (n = 3695) to forwards,
33.8% (n = 5151) to defenders, and 34.3% (n = 5225)
to midfielders. The distribution of injuries per playing position
was very similar in both younger and older soccer
players (Table 2), although the proportion of goalkeepers
was higher, and the proportion of forwards was lower in
the older group (P.05).
