The mean bias estimates obtained by the other teams at
the in situ calibration sites in Harvest ,
Bass Strait and Gavdos are about 9.1 cm , which is close
to the regional bias estimated in Senetosa. There are nevertheless
some differences between the estimates in Senetosa
presented in this paper and the biases obtained at the other
sites. In particular, the other groups used the wet troposphere
correction derived from the radiometer measurements,
instead of the ECMWF model. This choice can
have an impact of about 1 cm on the bias estimates,
depending on the regions. Moreover, they are less impacted
by the land contamination in the altimeter footprint given
the fact that the comparisons are not done so close to the
coast. However, the results obtained with the regional
calibration method are quite coherent with the other
estimates.
