The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is the most sacred pagoda structure in the city. It is also known as the Golden Pagoda. The official title for the pagoda is "Shwedagon Zedi Daw". This is one of the best tourist attractions in Yangon. The Shwedagon Pagoda dates back to 2500 years ago. It is located on the Singuttara Hill, lying about 190 feet above the sea. It lies to the west of the Kandawgyi Lake. The pagoda is 99 meters tall and is actually a brick stupa completely gilded with more than eight tons of gold.
