Most speech communities have more than one language variety. Of all language varieties, one of them is usually chosen to represent the standard variety, which is considered by speakers to be the “correct” and “proper” form of a language Linguistically speaking, the standard dialect refers to the variety of a language that functions as the institutionalized norm accepted by all speakers and used mainly in the media, schools, and official documents. For every language, at least one of the dialects is often recognized as the standard dialect, which provides a unified means of communication among speakers of different dialects.
