The Geometer’s Sketchpad is a dynamic geometry software that transforms and
improves the teaching and learning of mathematics. The capabilities of the program allow
the learners to experience concepts and engage in investigations in a dynamic
environment. In this thesis, original sketchpad activities were created to allow students to
observe the relationships of sketches, graphs, and other diagrams as any part of the object
is dragged and manipulated. We aim to show how implementing the use of Sketchpad in
technology-rich classrooms not only generates interest in students but it also aids in
developing a way of mathematical thinking in young learners. Furthermore, students may
engage in exploratory activities which promote hands-on learning and deeper
understanding of the material through demonstrative or investigative inspired lessons.
This thesis covers promising methods of implementing Sketchpad in the classroom to
enrich instruction in Geometry and Algebra classes. All figures within this text are
accompanied with original Sketchpad files that were meant to be explored dynamically.
