What are the reasons for people rejecting the religion of their parents? A study of individuals who rejected their parents' christian faith when they grew up was conducted by zina O'Leary 1999. She interviewed 80 individuals about their experience of apostasy, the rejection of Christian faith. In order to locate her findings in the context of cultural change she divided her sample into two cohorts one group leaving before 1967 and the other leaving after 1982. However, she found few differences between the two groups.
