Despite the benefits to humanity from globalization, it also creates tension between global and local communities. For instance, through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), conflicts arose among member-states which failed to reach universality due to their different agendas. There were political difficulties in agreeing on more precisely defined targets and commitments on several dimensions of the global partnership for development. The local conditions and complexities of the development process have been neglected. The poorest and most disadvantaged were often overlooked because of gender, age, disability, or ethnicity (United Nations, 2014). Economically, exploitation of the developing countries from developed countries occurs. Culturally, contention between different ethnic groups exists because they lack mutual understanding of each other. In addition, climate change and water shortage have no national boundary at all. Collective actions are crucial on global and local levels to combat these difficulties (UNESCO, 2014)
