Of note, the relationship
between these complications and nursing interventions
has not been studied. Peri-operative assessments,
education, pain management, ambulation and rehabilitation
reportedly have had significant impacts on
treatment effectiveness and patient satisfaction (Mauer
et al. 2002, Parsons & Sonnabend 2004, O’Sullivan
& Savage 2008, Lubbeke et al. 2009). As many of
these interventions are provided by nurses, it is important
to examine the types of nursing interventions and
the extent to which such interventions impact hospital
costs and patient outcomes.
