1. Compared to infants in a randomly
assigned control group, preterm infants
who receive 20 minutes of GHT
daily (from days 7 to 16 post birth)
will display a greater increase in periods
of inactivity (as measured by the
percentage of time of no movement)
from day 6 to day 17, a greater decrease
in motor activity (as measured
by frequency of limb movements,
body movements, head turnings, and
startles) from day 6 to day 17, a
greater decrease in the frequency of
behavioral distress cues (as measured
by facial grimacing, clenching of
hands and feet, and mouthing behaviors)
from day 6 to day 17, a greater
increase in weight gain from day 6 to
day 17, a greater increase in the percent
of time in quiet sleep from day 6
to day 17, and a greater decrease in
the percent of time spent in active
sleep from day 6 to day 17.
