Robotic technology development started in the 1950s and today is a mature technology already assisting humans in the manufacturing, space, military, civil security, and transportation sectors. Robots have already taken over human roles in the manufacturing industry, where they have significantly reduced worker injuries, accidents, and manufacturing defects. In the automotive industry, robotic technology allows a car to be made with much more precise welds and almost zero tolerances—better than could ever be achieved by humans. In the healthcare industry there are numerous successful examples of precise, minimally invasive surgery performed by robots, in some cases with the doctor as far as 200 miles away from the patient’s bed. Robotics has enabled surgeons to perform micro cuts and operations beyond the scope of human ability.
