The Matang
Mangrove Forest is a forest reserve with systematic management
since the early 1904 and, has been acknowledged as the best
managed mangrove forest in Malaysia and also among the world. It
is divided into four sub-areas from the north to the south, consisting
of the north of Kuala Sepetang, south of Kuala Sepetang,
Kuala Trong and Kuala Kerang. The Matang Mangrove Forest is the
largest single mangrove forest in Peninsular Malaysia, covering
more than 40,000 ha, and is an example of a sustainably managed
mangrove forest which has been able to successfully balance the
continuing demand for wood resources and preservation of the
mangrove ecosystem.
