The number of properties is quite extensive, and all the instrumentation required may not be available to many formulators. Ideally, all these tests should be conducted on final formulations but it is not practical, nor necessary, to conduct the total battery of tests on all preliminary formulations. Typically, initial formulations are screened for changes in pH, viscosity, flow behavior, odor and physical separation at elevated temperatures.
