Bernard Kouchner was born in French city of Avignon in 1939, and he became a medical doctor. In 1968, Kouchner was horrified when he learned about the effect of the famine in Biafa, near Nigeria, and he rushed to assist the people in the area. In 1971, Kouchner co-founded Medicins sans Frontieres (MSF), or Doctor without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization based in Paris, which provides emergency aid in nearly 70 countries.
