3.1. Smoke detector actuation
Table 2 shows the actuation times of the smoke detectors.-
Under the same fixed fire load, the actuation time in Test 1 (both
doors open) is shorter than in Test 2 (single door open), suggesting
that the larger opening increases the outdoor air supply
and generates more smoke, thereby expediting the actuation of
smoke detectors. Both Test 2 and Test 4 were conducted under
the same conditions except that the former featured 200 ignited
wooden strips while the latter only included 100 (also see Fig. 8).
The difference in actuation times between the two is small. In
general, the total amount of fire load does not significantly affect
the generation of smoke at the initial stage in a room fire and is
not obviously related to the actuation time of the smoke
detectors
