Politicians frequently say one thing and do another
(A lobbyist is someone who is employed to influence the members of a legislative body (senate, house of representatives) and thus they are often seen as a possible tool of corruption, especially because they are most successfully employed by corporate groups who almost never have the public interest in mind. Groups like the NRA (national rifle association), NMA (national manufacturer's association), and groups like arms manufacturers, cigarette companies, and financial institutions influence legislation far out of proportion to their numbers because they have a lot of money to pay the lobbyists and favors that can be given corruptly to the legislators).
