Sixty participants (30 male and 30 female) were subjected to a thermal comfort study in an environmental chamber served by displacement ventilation (DV) system in Singapore. Three vertical air temperature gradients were applied to expose the subjects who were engaged in sedentary office work for 3 h. The results of this work showed that local thermal discomfort decreased with the increment of air temperate [68].
A set of objective measurements and subjective assessments were conducted in the non-air-conditioned multi-storey hostels in Malaysia. The thermal comfort of occupants was studied in 24 rooms with and without an operating ceiling fan from May until July 2007 [69].A total of 298 individuals participated and a questionnaire survey was completed by them. No relationship was found between operative temperature and floor level or orientation of rooms. The high operative temperatures (from 29 1C to 30 1C) recorded among the three hostels were often present in Malaysia.
