As mentioned in the introductory chapters, digital safeguard
ecosystems are present and useful for worldwide security
and safety. The simple and effective hardware architecture,
as well as the adapted software front-end enables to
secure embedded computer systems, which are associated
with the proposed safe-guard ecosystem. Therefore, the
range of application is noticeable, because our technique
can be successfully implemented in nearly every embedded
device, as well as high-end database server processor.
Our hardware solution faces the problem of buffer overflows
and index-out-of-bound accesses. An advantage is
that range and bound checking is accomplished in hardware
and so no additional effort in software is needed. When implementing
our solution using the LEON 2 SPARC V8
processor from Gaisler Research in association with the
Common Language Infrastructure, a remarkable step to secure
embedded systems is reached.
The importance of our research project, called SecureCPU,
can be justified, because it is related to the European
Union framework program IST-FP6 and funded by
the Austrian Ministry for Technology and Innovation.
