At Gateway, a restaurant and a shoe store were held up within 24 hours.
The robbers first held up a popular restaurant on Monday night before returning the next morning to hold up a shoe store.
On Monday, after the restaurant closed at 10pm, two men walked in, pulled out a firearm and demanded the staff hand over cash, said police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker. They escaped with the money.
On Tuesday at 7.10am, a store manager was confronted by a man who threatened her with a knife, Naicker said.
“The man slapped her around and tied her hands behind her back before removing an undisclosed amount from a safe.”
Police are viewing CCTV footage to try to piece together how both incidents occurred and whether they are linked.
Gateway spokeswoman, Penny Wolhuter, said both incidents were being investigated.
At the Pavilion, details of a daylight robbery in one of its parking lots emerged in a
38-second video clip posted on social media.
Naicker said a 52-year-old businessman was accosted by three armed men on Tuesday.
“He was going to the bank when he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects sped off in their getaway vehicle. Westville police are investigating a case of armed robbery,” he said.
The video shows a businessman walking towards cars in the parking lot. A white car appears and stops near him.
The back driver’s side door opens and a man alights holding a gun. The back passenger side door and front passenger door open simultaneously and two men get out, also holding guns. The businessman appears on the screen and one of the men runs straight towards him.
