Location Principles
Frequency of bus stops is typically between 2-3 per
kilometer, depending on the density of development
(300-600 m).
Ideally, in urban areas, stops should be no more than
400 m apart, and the ideal walking distance to bus stop
should be less than 400m (i.e. 5 minutes walk)
Bus stops on opposite sides of the road should be sited
tail-to-tail to be safer for vehicle overtaking (ideally 40m)
Services with a common destination should share the
same stop
Walking distances between interchange stops and the
need for pedestrians to change stops should be
minimized where possible
