The presented results had demonstrated the ability of physical
pretreatment on water hyacinth for improving the yield of sugar
and processing time in dilute acid hydrolysis. The best pretreat-ment method concluded in this study was the combination of dry-ing and grinding, with yield of 155.13 mg sugar/g dry matter, about
6-fold higher than raw feedstock (24.69 mg sugar/g dry matter).
Morphology inspections and thermal analysis had revealed disrup-tions on the water hyacinth structure which explained the
enhancement of hydrolysis process. Future works may focus on
optimization of pretreatment methods and economic evaluation
for selecting feasible pretreatment method.
