Stock enhancement through the release of cultured juveniles has been suggested as a possible recovery tool for depleted red (Paralithodes camtschaticus) and blue (Paralithodes platypus) king crab populations in Alaska, USA, because of their high commercial value and the fact that recruitment limitation has been proposed to explain their lack of recovery in the absence of fishing (Blau, 1986).
