Meetings are a necessary evil in today’s dynamic business world, where close and effective interaction is the key to a company’s successful existence. Government meetings which were once hosted in well-furnished conference hall with national flags are now becoming quaint. But all that is set to change. The talks and high tea between US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the open lawns of New Delhi in January this year, or their visit to Lincoln Memorial in the US in September 2014, was not without reasons. These were part of the growing trend of “experience tourism” in the MICE—meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions—industry, which caters primarily to public and private sectors. The MICE industry is a high end and high revenue generating segment of outdoor tourism, with North America and Europe being the key markets. Asia Pacific and Latin America are the emerging markets, on the back of strong economic growth and infrastructure development.
